I'm trying to use hdmi for another monitor. Does a c-type to hdmi work on my mac?

Apple only added USB-C to the MacBook Air starting with the 2018 model. The Early 2015 model is equipped with one Thunderbolt 2 port and two standard USB-A 3.0 ports. You need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
