GarageBand crashes on launch after iOS 26 update

Since updating to iOS 26, I’ve been experiencing a crash issue with GarageBand.

  • When the output is set to the iPhone’s built-in speaker, the app launches and works normally.
  • However, when Bluetooth earphones (Shokz) are connected and set as the output device, the app immediately crashes on launch.

I’d like to know if this is a known bug and whether there is any workaround or solution.

It would be great if this issue could be addressed by the development team in a future update.

hi! common fixes include performing a manual reset of your Shokz headphones, ensuring your iPhone is updated, deleting the device from your iPhone's Bluetooth settings and re-pairing, restarting your iPhone, and checking your iPhone's audio settings for issues like Mono Audio or Headphone Safety, which can be adjusted in the Accessibility or Sounds & Haptics settings.

1. Perform a Manual Reset on Your Shokz

This is often the first step for many Bluetooth issues.

  1. Turn off: your Shokz headphones.
  2. Enter pairing mode: by pressing and holding the volume+ button for 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes red and blue.
  3. Press and hold: the multi-function button, volume+ button, and volume- button simultaneously for 3-5 seconds until you hear beeps or feel vibrations.
  4. Turn off: the headphones.
  5. Re-pair: the headphones to your iPhone.

2. Restart and Update Your Devices

  • Restart your iPhone: A simple restart can clear temporary issues.
  • Update your iOS: Ensure your iPhone's operating system is updated to the latest version for better compatibility.
  • Update Firmware: Check the Shokz Connect app for any available firmware updates for your headphones.

3. Check Your iPhone's Bluetooth Settings

  • Forget the Device: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, find your Shokz, tap the information icon, and select "Forget This Device".
  • Restart and Re-pair: After forgetting the device, restart your iPhone and then try to pair your Shokz again.

4. Adjust iPhone Audio Settings

  • Mono Audio: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual and ensure the balance slider is in the middle and Mono Audio is turned off.
  • Reduce Loud Audio: Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and turn off "Reduce Loud Audio". If Screen Time is enabled, you may need to adjust its settings first (Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Reduce Loud Audio).

5. Advanced Steps if Problems Persist

  • Reset Network Settings: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear all network configurations, including Bluetooth.
  • Contact Shokz Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact Shokz Support directly for personalized assistance.

However, the iPhone is optimized for Apple, which makes it less compatible and provides enhanced security for devices that are not certified by Apple. Thank you.
