(ENG) I find it uncomfortable to use the sunset emoji in the travel section because the rays behind the sun seem to resemble a controversial historical symbol, which makes expressing myself awkward. While Apple has updated and added emojis related to LGBT and PC topics over the past decade, I wonder if there has been a review of these particular emojis. The pattern resembling the controversial symbol holds negative historical significance for people in countries that were colonized by Japan, such as Korea, China, and other Asian countries. It symbolizes the invasion during the era of Japanese imperialism. I hope Apple considers removing this pattern in the next update, as it's comparable to inserting a Nazi symbol into an otherwise ordinary European-themed emoji. It would be appreciated if Apple, known for its attention to cultural sensitivity, could address this feedback.
Plus, there are some links I pasted on upper comment. They are posts, Wikipedia information, and articles about historical information and meanings about rising sun flags, the reason why you mustn’t use it as a design or any use, and some continuing controversies of Japanese government or other officials using the rising sun flag.
Japan still has not apologized for the Military sexually slavery and forced labor issues it perpetrated against countries like Korea and others. Instead, it tends to rationalize and downplay these imperialistic acts and wartime atrocities. Not acknowledging the rising sun flag as a symbol of wartime aggression and allowing its indiscriminate use by those ignorant of history, particularly regarding Japan's actions during World War II, the Imperial Japanese era, and the Second Sino-Japanese War, adds to this context.
Approaching the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of Korea, having the rising sun flag design in emojis used globally is concerning. Some people may use it without understanding its historical background, which is particularly disconcerting. This situation is unreasonable, especially considering the painful history of the Japanese occupation era, not only for Korea but also for China, which suffered during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Nanjing Massacre, as well as other countries in Southeast Asia and Taiwan that experienced Japanese colonial rule and the Military sexual slavery issue.
It would be appreciated if Apple addresses this issue more seriously and responsibly.
